Letter to Senator Barack Obama: Would It Be Racist If…?
October 24, 2008
Dear Senator Obama:
Today we looked up 'racism' in the dictionary and found that it's defined as "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race".
It's the same definition that we learned all those years ago in junior high school when we were taught NOT to treat people differently because of their race.
That now has us confused because every time someone raises a legitimate question that you don't want to answer regarding your past, your character, or your policies, you or your surrogates yell 'racism'.
These are questions that would be asked about any white candidate, so we're wondering if you're asking to be treated differently because of your race.
If so, wouldn't that make you a racist?

We'd like your guidance. Would it be racist if we were to ask you the following questions, and if so, how and why would it be?
- You admit that you have used cocaine. Was it powdered or crack? We ask because you also admit to being addicted to cigarettes and since crack is highly addictive we'd like to know if you're addicted to it as well? Also, please tell us when you last used an illegal substance of any kind.
- You admit that you lived with a drug dealer for several years. What kinds of drugs did he deal? Did he deal drugs to children? Why should the American people elect as their president someone who had the poor judgment to live with a drug dealer?
- Have you ever dealt drugs? If so, which drugs? Have you ever dealt drugs to children? Do you believe that a former drug dealer is automatically disqualified from being president? If not, why not?
- Would you agree to be tested for drugs prior to the election if John McCain would too? If not, why not?
Please let us know if it would be racist to ask these questions because we want to avoid breaking your rules regarding proper political speech.
After all, that First Amendment thing about Congress making no law abridging the freedom of speech is so vague.
You know what would be really helpful? If you were to become president, maybe you could publish a book of rules to tell us what we can and can not say.
Maybe you could open up a helpful federal bureaucracy employing fifteen thousand people who could roam the country looking for violators.
Or were you planning on using Department of Justice lawyers for that?
