Gas Tax Obama

November 1, 2008

If you make more than $42,000 per year and you still believe that Barack Obama will give you an income tax cut, you're beyond our capacity to help you.

While you're suffering from those delusions, however, you should know that Obama plans to raise the federal tax on gasoline (currently at 18.4 cents per gallon) and diesel fuel (currently at 24.3 cents per gallon), by about 50%.

That increase would wipe out any supposed tax cut.

It would raise your cost of commuting and further depress the economy.

If you work for a trucking company, or for a company that is linked heavily to over-the-road transportation of goods or services, it may cost you your job.

You don't believe he'll raise these taxes?

Here's a test.

We'll send ten 'Barack Obama's "Change": Tax, Surrender, and Freeze in Darkness' bumper stickers, free of charge, to anyone who can get him to say the following words on television before Tuesday, November 4, 2008:

"I give the American people my solemn word that I will not support any increase in the federal tax on gasoline or diesel fuel, and that I will veto ANY legislation passed by Congress that contains such a provision."

Of course, as we pointed out in "Not Yet In Office But Already Breaking Campaign Promises" his word isn't worth the hot air that carries it aloft.

James Oberstar, the Democrat Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee said this in July 2008: "We'll put all things on the table, but the gas tax is the cornerstone. Nothing else will work without the underpinning of the higher user fee gas tax."

Did Obama object to that?

No.

Note the term "user fee gas tax". You buy the gasoline. It's yours. But Barack Obama and the Democrats want to charge you again for using it.

How dare you use something that belongs to you.

Rep. Peter DeFazio, the Democrat Chairman of the Highway Subcommittee, said that at the very least, the gas tax should be indexed to construction cost inflation.

Did Obama object to that?

No.

Have you ever noticed that when the indexation of taxes for inflation would take more money out of your pocket they're for it, but when it would leave money in your pocket "we can't afford it"?

They must be using the royal 'we'.

A higher gas tax is for your benefit, of course.

It would:

If God is intent on punishing America by allowing Obama to become president, there will be a higher federal tax on gasoline and diesel fuel.

Go ahead Senator Obama.

Deny it.
